We went by train: Stirling to London, then the Eurostar to Brussels. From there we took the Thalys ICE train to Cologne and then on to the Berlin Hauptbahnhof.
Berlin is quite a strange place in many ways. No matter where you go you can’t seem to get away from its recent history. The destruction during the Second World War of so many of its buildings means that much of the architecture is either a reconstruction or brand new and somewhat characterless.
There are constant reminders of the Nazi regime and the Holocaust. And so there should be. Nor can the casual tourist avoid references to the old East West divide and the infamous Wall.
Nevertheless I liked Berlin much more than I ever thought I would. A great city.
